The summer rodeo season is in full swing, and cowboys and cowgirls are traveling far and wide to compete all over the country in various PRCA rodeos. The CPRA just hosted an annual favorite event which drew some of the biggest names in bronc riding.
The Gunners Bronc Battle has taken place for the past five years in Gleichen, Alberta, Canada and is highly anticipated by fans every year. This year, the competitor turnout did not disappoint.
Some of the world’s best bronc riders came to bring their best to the arena, including names like Zeke Thirston, Kolby Wanchuk, Dawson Hay, Logan Hay, Ben Anderson, Quinten Taylor and Layton Green. All of these cowboys are top-standing PRCA/CPRA riders, many past NFR/CFR qualifiers and CPRA top 15 veterans.
All of this talent gathered in one place guaranteed ta good show at this year’s Gunners Bronc Battle, and it truly was an event to remember.
Beginning with a three-way tie in the long go round, Dylan Young on Debt So Long, Kolby Wanchuk on Cracking The Till, and Dawson Hay on Flickering Skies each walked away with $3,567.76 after outstanding 86.5-point rides.

Moving into the short go, the top competitors had one last shot at the title, and Quinten Taylor hit the target dead-on. With an impressive 89 points in Mary Lou, he left the event with a first place finish and a total of $7,016.56 in prizes for his outstanding efforts. Quinten, a former CFR Qualifier, came into the event with good odds of doing well. The bronc he was paired with, Mary Lou, only increased those odds as this event has been won on the back of Mary Lou in the past.
With the added cash from this event, Quinten Taylor now unofficially moves into the top three in the Canadian standings. This rider is expected to have an exciting season as he shared that he will likely enter around 100 rodeos, and hopes to make it to 85-90 of those. If Taylor can continue this high-level of competition results, we will undoubtably see him in this year’s Canadian Finals Rodeo in October.
However, this cowboy's talents will not be exclusively found in Canada, as he shared that he plans to spend a large part of the year competing in rodeos further South. Overall, fans will be glad to hear that they will have ample opportunity to watch Q Taylor and his traveling partners Logan hay and Ben Anderson compete across the world this year.
The rest of the short go also provided big payouts to big names, with Kyle Wanchuk taking second with an 86.5-point ride to match his brother’s Long Go ride, leaving the arena with an additional $3750 to add to his season’s earnings.
In all, the 2026 Gunners Bronc Battle was an amazing event, giving some of North America’s best bronc riders the opportunity to win big. In the end, Quinten Taylor was the rider who was able to pull off this major success, but not without a fight against the best Canadian bronc riders in the business.
All eyes will be on these cowboys as they continue their summer circuit, watching and waiting to see who will make an appearance at the 2026 CFR.
