Thanks for the blast from the past Rhubarb Foot. I was at the game in 98 and remember the ultimate coolness of buying my dad a WILD CARD shirt after the game. Good times.

What a great year 98 was.![]()
cheesebeef said:I can remember clear as day the last moments of that game. 4th and 20 from our 30 yard line and Craig Freaking Whelihan throws a 30 yrad strike for the touchdwon. I was sure they were going for the two and that was the season.
I was there with Ouchie and my other brother and my father and immediately ran into the concourse - where it was dead silent - screamed to the heavens and threw my favorite hat in the whole world (a tan and black PING hat) somewhere - didn't even bother to try and look for it. I remember walking back into my seats when Bro-Not-Ouchie looked up from his hands which were cupping his face, with tears literally in his eyes and said "I can't believe they did this to us." Ouchie was beyond words speechless - mouth agape and my Dad just stood there, seemingly more frustrated at that moment than when I got suspended from school for a month for smoking grass on a school trip to D.C.
We stood there and heaved a sigh of relief when Jones didn't go for two and then just prayed -literally prayed and started screaming when Metcalf had that return - I thought he was gone - but the man had the angle on him. Jake hit that one short one to Frank Sanders and I remember him coming off the field with a - uh - pointed point at Jacke, like "make this you motherf*cker". The kick went up and I never experienced pandemonium like that until I was at Game 7 - but it was as if every sin anyone for the Cardinals ever committed with absolved within that one perfect moment.
We left my Dad and me, Ouchie and Bro #2 walked the concourse SCREAMING "WE WANT DALLAS! WE WANT DALLAS!" We then stormed the field with the rest of the psychos and began grabbinbg whatever we could - gatorade cups from the sidelines, player's tape and then at the 50 - I jumped on to mid field and started ripping up the grass and about 20 people instantly followed suit. Hell - I remember asking someone to take our picture on the field of the three of us and by the time she took it, we were surrounded by what seemed like 1000's of screaming Cards fans - one of my favorite pics of all time.
And that sunset . . . that beautiful sunset . . . it was like a fairy tale.[/QUOT
*wipes a tear* This was beautiful brother.![]()

Mulli808 said:Did Ryan Leaf play in that game? Hard to remember after all the celebrations. Did he or Wheels throw 4 picks, 3 to Kwame?
Bobcat said:Yes I did. I offered you one of my winter Jackets I took to montana the year before. You wouldn't wear the Rebok Jacket. I was thoasty warm with sweats and long johns And my other winter jacket. See it pays to be old sometimes. (HA, HA)

lol, why did I use all CAPS?I TOO REMEMBER THE UP AND DOWN EMOTIONS OF THAT GREAT DAY VS. SAN DIEGO...
I LIVED IN FRESNO, CA AT THE TIME AND I HAD JUST PUNCHED OUT FROM WORK AT A LOCAL DRUG STORE AND--KNOWING THE GAME WAS ON--AND THAT THE GAME WOULD JUST HAVE A LITTLE TIME LEFT--I HURRIEDLY FLIPPED ON THE TV IN THE BREAK ROOM.
IT WAS JUST TWO DOWNS BEFORE THAT ***###@@@!!! WHIELHAN(sp?) THROWS THE BEST PASS OF HIS LIFE TO SEEMINGLY KILL ALL OUR CARDINAL HOPES. I WAS SO DISTRAUGHT, I WAS KICKING CHAIRS AND LETTING THE EXPLITIVES FLY UNTIL METCALF HAD THAT AMAZING RUN.
AS JAKE HIT SANDERS WITH JUST SECONDS LEFT, MY HEART POUNDED DEEPER THAN AN 808 DRUM AND MY HANDS SHOOK LIKE A FURIOUS EARTHQUAKE.
CHRIS JACKIE COMES IN AND JUST MAKES THE KICK...HE MAKES THE KICK!!!!!
I JUMPED IN ECSTASY, THREW MY HANDS IN THE AIR, AND WITH TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE, I CRASHED THROUGH THE BREAKROOM DOORS AND ONTO THE SALES FLOOR, RUNNING AND JUMPING DOWN THE TOY ISLE, I MUST HAVE SCREAMED, "YES!!" DOZENS OF TIMES.
CO-WORKERS AND CUSTOMERS MUST HAVE THOUGHT I WAS A LUNATIC, BUT I DIDN'T CARE. FINALLY, ALL MY YEARS OF FRUSTRATION AND HEARTBREAK HAD BEEN TAKEN AWAY, THE DEAMONS OF NEIL O'DONAHUE'S MISSED FG VS. THE REDSKINS IN 84 WHEN I WAS 9 YEARS OLD WERE FINALLY EXERCISED.
ONCE AGAIN, THE CARDINALS LEFT ME CRYING, BUT FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE THEY WERE TEARS OF JOY!!!
THE NEXT DAY I BOOKED A FLIGHT TO PHOENIX, SO I COULD WATCH THE FIRST EVER REAL PLAYOFF GAME FEATURING THE CARDINALS WITH MY FAMILY ON TV.
MY FATHER AND GRANDFATHER GREW UP IN ST. LOUIS AND COMBINED, WE HAD 3 GENERATIONS OF SUFFERING COME TO AN END FOR A BRIEF MOMENT IN TIME.
IT WAS A LIFE'S TREAT TO SEE THE CARDS TEAR UP THE COWBOYS (THE EVIL EMPIRE) IN TEXAS STADIUM....
EVEN THOUGH WE ALL CRASHED BACK TO EARTH BY THE FOLLOWING SEASON, IT WAS GREAT TO FEEL PROUD OF OUR CARDINALS FOR-- AT LEAST-- ONCE.![]()
The game Kwamie Lassiter won us the game. If you ever watch the ending from the visitors side and when it expires you see a guy leap the fence
That was me.
4 picks, right?
What was louder, this game or the NFC championship against Philly?
BTW apparently we have a VHS recording of the Cowboys win in the playoffs thanks to @Jersey Girl we will be converting to DVD and probably get a couple more for those who want it
Boss move!I have the game taped on a VHS tape also. That's the good news. The bad news is that I taped the game over our wedding. My wife still gives me **** about that.
