When Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen took the New York Giants to the postseason in 2022 for the first time in a long time, everyone thought things were finally going to turn around. Except that since then, the Giants have done nothing but go downhill in dramatic fashion, culminating in the ousting of Wink Martindale and the eventual release of Daniel Jones.
The release of Jones is what has the Giants in their current predicament at the quarterback position. They decided to retain Tommy DeVito, a hometown favorite, and in the last week, they've added veteran quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.
That hasn't slowed down their discussion about the quarterback spot, nor have they said if they will also draft a quarterback next month in the 2025 NFL draft.
The quarterback position is, by far, the most important position on the football field at any given time. Which is why every NFL team is constantly on the lookout for their next franchise quarterback, even if they house a solid starter, the future always comes faster than you think.
The problem with the Giants' approach is that what they are doing isn't helping their team. Adding both Wilson and Winston did absolutely nothing for their betting odds of winning in 2025.
They opened at a league-low and added personnel thought to improve their roster, only to find that those additions didn't do much. At least on paper, they didn't. Everything changes in the fall when the players actually hit the field.
The thing is, Daboll and Schoen have to do better in 2025 if they want to keep their jobs. Following a three-win season with a four-win season is not an improvement, especially when you've added veteran quarterbacks to the ranks. If the Giants want to have a season that they consider successful, they've got to win more than 50 percent of their games. And, right now, it's still not looking good.
The draft is less than a month away, and what the Giants do in Green Bay will alter the perception of what to expect in 2025. For the Giants' sake, Schoen and Daboll better draft well.

The #Giants win total opened at a league-low 3.5 wins over at @ESPNBET. It remains at 3.5 wins after the acquisition of Russell Wilson.
