The Miami Dolphins are in the early days of another rebuild after firing their head coach and general manager and moving on from expensive veterans in favor of younger, cheaper options to fill out the roster.
While most of the players that the Dolphins signed to inexpensive, one-year deals, the three-year, $67.5 million contract for quarterback Malik Willis clearly stood out. That's likely because of the inside information that new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley have after working with the quarterback for the last two years in Green Bay.
It's evident that the Dolphins' new regime has a belief that Willis could be a franchise quarterback, but Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently predicted that the 27-year-old will be a bust for the team in 2026.
It's no surprise why Moton feels this way. The Dolphins haven't done anything to surround the quarterback with weapons. In fact, they've done the opposite.
Over the past few months, Miami has released Tyreek Hill and traded Jaylen Waddle. They've also let Darren Waller remain unsigned on the market. While they signed Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Reagor and Terrace Marshall Jr., none of those veterans would even be a WR2 on a competitive team.
The additions of rookies Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr. could help, but it's tough to have high expectations for a trio of wide receivers taken in the third round or later.
Without the talent to throw to, it feels like Willis isn't set up for success, and if he can't bring the team to more than three or four wins, they'll likely be looking for a new quarterback early in the 2027 NFL draft.
