The Brandan Sorsby saga has swung another direction again, this time in a way the New York Jets could see themselves connected to speculation.

Sorsby, considered a top quarterback talent and once a potential first-round pick at the NFL draft, has decided he will aim his near future toward the pros despite recent off-field issues.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Sorsby has decided to enter the NFL's Supplemental Draft:

The Texas A&M quarterback was facing a potential NCAA ban for alleged gambling violations. After the NCAA initially denied his appeal for reinstatement, a judge in Lubbock County ruled in favor of Sorby's injunction against the NCAA, making him eligible to play college football this upcoming season, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Despite that, Sorsby will not return to school and will head to the NFL.

The supplemental draft is held for players who didn’t enter the NFL draft, but whose college eligibility was later affected. It does not happen every offseason and last took place in 2023 and no one has been selected since 2019.

A weighted lottery is held by the NFL to determine the supplement draft's order. Teams will then bid a future draft pick in 2027 to get the player in the supplemental draft. The team that bid the highest draft pick is awarded the player.

The NFL has not yet announced a potential date a 2026 Supplement Draft to take place.

Despite signing veteran Geno Smith and selecting Cade Klubnik in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, it seems likely that the Jets will be considered a team that could consider Sorsby.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
