WEST LAFAYETTE − Ryan Browne's sabbatical in North Carolina is over.
Purdue football's former quarterback is again a Boilermaker.
After Browne transferred to play for Bill Belichick at North Carolina in December, he re-entered the transfer portal this week. Browne entered the portal on Dec. 3 following Ryan Walters getting fired as head coach. He departed after Purdue brought on Malachi Singleton from Arkansas, the first of three transfer quarterbacks Purdue signed ahead of the spring season. One of those three, UCF transfer EJ Colson, has already re-entered the portal.
On Friday, the redshirt sophomore Browne had a change of heart on new head coach Barry Odom and staff, again pledging his commitment to Purdue.
Following last Saturday's spring showcase, the cap to Purdue's spring season, Odom remained steadfast the Boilermakers hadn't made a decision on the future No. 1 quarterback.

Browne rejoins Purdue after starting against Illinois and Oregon last season.
Browne completed 55 of 92 passes for 636 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 420 yards on 71 attempts over two seasons. Against Illinois, Browne registered a career day and became the first Purdue player to throw for 250 yards (297) and rush for 100 yards (118) in a game since Brandon Kirsch in 2002.
The return of Browne immediately inserts him into the battle for Purdue's starting quarterback along with Bennett Meredith, with whom Browne split series with in a 2023 game at Northwestern, along with Singleton and Washington State transfer Evans Chuba.
