DANVILLE — The Pulaski County Lady Maroons found themselves at an unexpected crossroads late in their regional first round contest against Danville on Monday, down a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. However, you can’t count this senior-laden group out, as the Maroons rallied to take down the Lady Ads 8-2.
Both teams struggled to score early on in the contest and were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning, with both Brooklyn Thomas and Jaycee Morse dominating for their respective team. Some untimely errors in the top of the frame let the Admirals score their second run of the game to take the one run lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The bats finally woke up for Pulaski in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back doubles were hit by Shelbie Sellers and Julie Bullock to tie the game up. A single from Kelsea Blanton was followed by Rilee Ross drawing a walk to load the bases up. The next batter was out, but that isn’t where the damage stopped for the Maroons.
Singles from both Kynslie Crabtree and Thomas, as well as a double from Ryann Sowder, scored another five runs to give the Maroons full control over the contest as they were ahead by six runs. Danville eventually was down to their final out in the top of the seventh with one runner on base, and how fitting was it in a game mostly controlled by the pitchers on the mound that Thomas struck out the final batter in just three pitches to bring the game to an end.
Thomas led the way with two RBI’s, while Claire Hamilton, Sowder, Bullock and Blanton all had one RBI apiece. Sellers and Kailee Zimmerman each had two hits, with Ross and Crabtree each having one hit apiece. Avery Davis, Thomas, Ross, Claire Hamilton and Scarlett Hamilton each had one stolen base. Thomas pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing two runs (zero earned) on two hits with two walks and 14 strikeouts.
Pulaski improves to 16-15 and will next take on the West Jessamine Colts in the semifinals of the 12th Region Tournament on Tuesday.
