The Colorado Buffaloes are going to do everything in their power to rebound from a disastrous 3-9 (1-8 Big 12) season.

Deion Sanders is hoping to right the ship with a revamped coaching staff that includes two new coordinators and 40-plus transfers.

With a marquee showdown against Georgia Tech to open the season, the Buffs have a chance to start the year with a resume-building win.

Like most football teams, how far Colorado goes depends on quarterback play led by star redshirt freshman Julian Lewis. Lewis playing up to his potential could take the Buffs back to where they were in 2024, when they went 9-4.

Here are some early predictions for Colorado's 2026 season, including an end-of-season record.

Colorado beats one of Texas Tech, Utah or Arizona State

Texas Tech, Arizona State and Utah are arguably the Buffaloes' most difficult Big 12 opponents. For the Buffs to have any hopes of reaching six wins and bowl eligibility, at least one win against those three teams is necessary.

The Buffs go 2-1 through the opening three games

At Georgia Tech vs. Weber State, and at Northwestern, is how Colorado opens the 2026 season. Anything less than a 2-1 start would be a disappointment, and a 0-3 start would be a disaster. The Buffs cannot afford to drop a game against the FCS's Weber State, then a split against the Yellowjackets and Wildcats would be acceptable.

Last three games will be significant

Colorado closes the season with games against Houston, at Cincinnati and vs. UCF. In all likelihood, those three contests will determine whether the Buffaloes become bowl-eligible or not. Houston is the toughest of the bunch, but the Bearcats and Knights are winnable games. Another 2-1 stretch should be enough for six wins and a bowl game, but a clean 3-0 should be written off, either.

Final Record Prediction

A 6-6 season seems entirely plausible based on Colorado's 2026 schedule. More than six would be surprising, but the team should improve as the season progresses, making a November run a possibility.
