As we gear up for the 2026 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down nearly every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player’s background, high school recruiting rankings, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
On the defensive line, there’s a clear opportunity for someone to emerge as the next All‑SEC edge rusher, and one sophomore is positioning himself to seize it. Graduate transfer Anto Saka brings an elite athletic profile to Texas A&M and helps bridge the gap between unproven young talent and the production lost to the NFL. At 255 pounds, he’ll need to show he can consistently hold up against the run, but his instant speed off the edge gives the Aggies a true outside‑rushing threat.
In 2025, Saka appeared in 11 games, recording 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. The numbers don’t scream elite, but context matters. He played limited snaps and was deployed primarily as a pass‑rush specialist. Even so, he generated 30 pressures, earning his second straight All‑Big Ten Honorable Mention and reinforcing his upside as a disruptive edge defender.
The former four‑star prospect earned All‑Big Ten Honorable Mention, starting all 11 games and posting 13 tackles, 4.0 TFLs, 3.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and two QB hits. Ranked No. 56 on Bruce Feldman’s annual “Freaks List,” he became the first Northwestern defender since 2019–21 to record at least 12 sacks, 14 TFLs, and three forced fumbles.
The battle for defensive end isn’t fully settled, but a few players have clearly moved to the front of the competition. With Cashius Howell setting the bar last season, Mike Elko is looking for the next impact edge defender to take over that role. Anto Saka has the inside track. A former high‑school sprinter with NFL‑level traits, his athleticism and experience give him a natural advantage in the race for starting reps at this point. If he can show to be serviceable against the run, it’s essentially his job to lose.
