The New York Knicks crowd is among the loudest in the NBA, if not the loudest, and fans have demonstrated that throughout these playoffs. Nearly every game at Madison Square Garden has been electric, not only because the Knicks are chasing an elusive NBA championship, but also because of the attendance of an important person on Sunday.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will attend the Knicks’ first home game of the 2026 NBA Finals, and many expect him to attract significant attention as one of the most prominent public figures in the country.
Madison Square Garden, riding on a two-game road win agains the San Antonio Spurs, announced that the venue will disallow people carrying bags while the areas surrounding the arena will be subject to heightened security measures.
“Attendees should anticipate hard street closures in the immediate area surrounding Madison Square Garden,” Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi said in an emailed statement.
“A strict no-bag policy will be enforced, and we want to communicate that early and broadly so fans can plan accordingly. Attendees should also expect Secret Service-level security screening, similar to airport screening procedures.”
Some people thought this security measure is necessary but over at the Knicks’ Instagram post, people have a different concern. They think the POTUS will ruin the atmosphere.
“He needs to stay home. He don’t want him messing up the vibe,” one top user wrote.
“His bad juju will ruin the good vibes ” said another.
“THATS NOT THE COLOR ORANGE WE WANT TO SEE AT THE GARDEN!” another comment reads.
Another criticism about this POTUS appearance is that he is being branded as a bandwagon, someone who only ride on the momentum of the team and was never there during the hard days.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver is the first to back up President Trump’s credentials. He said Trump has been a fan of the team even before he entered politics.

There is anticipation that the president will be booed at the MSG but Trump have one sure fan inside the court. Mitchell Robinson of the Knicks has expressed many times how he supporters the controversial president and even get to it on Tiktok.
