Michael Shope of Alter defeated Tyler Lammers of Summit Country Day to win the Division II boys tennis district championship at Lindner Family Tennis Center on Saturday, May 23.
Shope won the championship match by scores of 6-2, 6-4. He beat Milton-Union’s Levi Brumbaugh 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinal round.
Brumbaugh went on to take the third-place match in two sets against Adi Nayak of Seven Hills.
In D-II doubles Oakwood’s duo of Oren Watson/Ronin Boehne fell in the third-place match to one of the three Indian Hill teams that qualified for the state tournament.
In D-I Tippecanoe’s Nick Von Krosigk won his third-place match after his opponent retired due to injury late in the second set. Greg Bernadsky of Mason won the D-I singles championship.
Each of these athletes are moving on to the OHSAA state tournament, which is returning to the Lindner Family Tennis Center this year, scheduled for Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29.
