Sep. 11—Of the 16 area teams, it was nearly a down the middle split of wins and losses in Week 1. Nine teams started the season off 1-0 and seven began 0-1.

As Week numero dos gets underway on Thursday, a good reminder that the season-openers doesn't make a season, nor is it cause for panic. It is merely a starting point.

Here is a capsule look at the 15 games for Week 2.

Oakville-North River (1-0) at North Beach (1-0), 7 p.m., Thursday

The Acorns got first-year head coach Camren Bowes his first win with a 22-point victory over Ocosta last Friday. It was the Lewis Koser show with four total touchdowns, including a fourth quarter kickoff return. ONR and North Beach met in Week 2 last year, a 34-24 win for the Acorns. North Beach opened the year by squeaking past NW Christian (Lacey) by four points. This Class 1B Southwest League game was moved up due to the availability of officials.

Warden (1-0) at Mossyrock (0-1), 5 p.m.

Of the Friday night games in Lewis County, this one has the earliest start. The Vikings kept it close with Raymond/South Bend last week for a half, then things got away in the final 24 minutes to lose 43-8. First-year head coach Robbie Dailey praised the effort his group gave. Freddy Solis was responsible for the lone score, a 46-yard run. Warden coasted past Medical Lake 32-13. The Cougars' three losses last year were by a combined score of 149-9.

Capital (1-0) at W.F. West (0-1), 7 p.m.

For the new-look Bearcats, they had several missed opportunities in a 23-15 loss to North Kitsap. Over the last decade, they have started 0-2 just once. Wyatt Hoffman and Connor Coleman developed a nice connection with a pair of touchdowns and Coleman eclipsed 100 receiving yards. Capital, a Class 3A program, needed overtime to triumph past Olympia 33-27. The Cougars' Brodie Laritz had three interceptions last year.

Centralia (0-1) at R.A. Long (0-1), 7 p.m.

Of all the games over the nearly two years since the Tigers have been in the win column, last year's contest against the Lumberjacks was the closest margin. It was in overtime where R.A. Long won 21-15. Centralia's Malcolm Tukes finished Week 1 with 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns. R.A. Long was romped in the season-opener to Castle Rock by four scores. The Lumberjacks rushed for just under three yards per carry a year ago.

Eatonville (0-1) at Black Hills (1-0), 7 p.m,

If you had after Week 1 Black Hills and Aberdeen atop the Evergreen Conference, raise your hand... Now put it down because you're probably lying. The Wolves needed two touchdowns to dispatch Clover Park 14-7. Jesse Keith finished 10-of-14 at quarterback and Marshall Orona bulldozed his way to 74 yards for Black Hills. Eatonville was blown out by Cascade Christian 51-14 last Friday. The Cruisers started 5-1 a year ago before losing three straight.

Tumwater (0-1) at Bainbridge (0-1), 7 p.m.

How rare was the six-point loss the Thunderbirds suffered last week to Class 4A Puyallup? It was the first time in almost three years they lost in the regular season and nearly four years they fell to a non-league opponent. Peyton Davis, Brett Heryford and Blake Heryford all rushed for a score for Tumwater. Bainbridge played the 2A champ in Anacortes last week and now gets the 2A runner-up. The Spartans' lone score last week was a kickoff return TD.

Castle Rock (1-0) at Rochester (1-0), 7 p.m.

The last time the Warriors started 2-0 was the 2022 season, but that group ended the year 1-6 and finished tied for last in the Evergreen Conference. Can the 2025 group reverse the fortune? Ethan Rodriguez, reigning 1A Evergreen MVP, finished with over 250 total yards and four scores in Rochester's 20-point win over King's Way Christian. This one came down to the wire a year ago, won by the Warriors 20-14. Castle Rock was fifth in the Trico last year.

Tenino (1-0) at Kalama (0-1), 7 p.m.

The third year under defensive coordinator J.D. Johnson, at least for one game, showed the prowess of the Beavers' unit by forcing seven turnovers including six fumble recoveries. That pushed Tenino to a 40-0 thrashing of county rival Rainier. Tenino nearly completed a comeback against Kalama a year ago, but couldn't finish it off in the fourth quarter. The Chinooks committed 13 penalties last week in a two-point loss to Woodland.

Onalaska (0-1) at Napavine (1-0), 7 p.m.

The only area head-to-head and the Game of the Week pits two of the best Class 2B programs in the state against each other. It's been two years since the Highway 508 rivals have clashed on the gridiron, a 58-14 win by Napavine. The Tigers thumped Goldendale with over 300 rushing yards. It was another double digit loss to Nooksack Valley to begin the year for the Loggers despite trailing by two near the end of the opening half.

Cle Elum-Roslyn (1-0) at Adna (0-1), 7 p.m.

The Pirates were blown out in Week 1 last year and turned around to shutout CE-R 42-0 in Week 2. Can a repeat performance happen? Adna had several chances versus Toledo to make the game closer last week, but couldn't. Beau Miller rushed for 97 yards and Steven O'Dell had 11 tackles in the loss. The Warriors cruised by Manson 33-12 last week. They made the Class 2B state playoffs and nearly upset No. 2 seed Aston in the Round of 16.

White Swan (0-1) at Morton-White Pass (1-0), 7 p.m.

Due to the fires out east, both the Cougars and Timberwolves will be on short rest for Friday night's non-league tilt. Still, MWP is coming off a dominating 53-7 victory over Highland on Monday night in Cowiche. It finished with 427 yards on the ground, mainly from Kohen Ingalsbe and freshman Liam Pelletier. The Timberwolves are aiming for their second straight 2-0 start. White Swan was shut out in Week 1 to River View, 58-0.

Raymond/South Bend (1-0) at Rainier (0-1), 7 p.m.

Two teams that had complete opposite season-openers will clash helmets in a game that could be a Class 2B crossover preview. The turnovers and lack of offensive flow doomed the Mountaineers in Week 1. This week starts a stretch of three home games for Rainier over the next four weeks. RSB broke away from Mossyrock thanks to the legs of senior running back Chris Banker, who finished with 177 yards and three touchdowns.

Winlock (1-0) at Ocosta (0-1), 7 p.m.

The return to 8-man went swimmingly for the Cardinals and senior QB Carter Svenson last week. Svenson went for over 400 yards of total offense and a staggering seven touchdowns in Winlock's coaster over Chief Leschi. It was Winlock's first win since November of 2023 against Tulip Heritage. Ocosta will be at home all but twice this season. The Wildcats' Ronin Rutzer was responsible for three touchdowns last week.

Blaine (0-1) at Pe Ell/Willapa Valley (1-0), 1 p.m., Saturday

Just over four hours is the trek the Borderites will take to get to Pe Ell to face the Titans' Wing-T offense for a Saturday matinee kickoff. PWV walloped Evergreen (Seattle) 41-8 behind a balanced running attack that featured six with over 10 yards. Lucas Lusk and Blaine King each had two touchdowns. The Borderites lost to Renton by 30-plus points. Their seven wins a year ago was the most they've had since a six-win season in 2016.

Toledo (1-0) at Goldendale (0-1), 2 p.m., Saturday

It was the Adam Kruger and Eli Weeks show last week, connecting for four scores in the Week 1 victory. The Riverhawks won last year's matchup by just 13 points, their closest margin of their nine wins a year ago. For the second straight week, the Timberwolves will face a C2BL opponent. They were able to avoid the shutout thanks to a Chris McKune score in the fourth quarter and he finished with 100 yards.
