Is anyone aware of how the new stadium location will affect the location of the practice facility? It is my understanding they had an arrangement with Tempe providing they played in Tempe. Will they be moving the facility to Glendale?

I doubt the practice facility will be moving any time soon. Tempe will sweeten the pot too much.

Portland Oregon these days.
The agreement with Tempe stated that as long as the Cards played in Tempe, they got a good discount (even free?) use of the facility. Once they begin playing in Glendale, that's gone.

The Cards have stated they would not be moving out -- I don't know if Tempe will change the original agreement. Perhaps if Tempe doesn't, the Cards will eventually move the training facility.

I don't recall the details, but I remember reading that the Cardinals had made a new agreement with the City of Tempe that extends beyond the opening of the new stadium in Glendale. (Jim O; or anyone else; can you help out here?)

There are many reasons for the Cardinals to want to continue to train at the current location. Among them: convienent location to many players and employees homes, continued "exposure" to east valley cities, excellent training facility, it is easier to travel crosstown (to Glendale) one day per week than five.

Of course, as with any business decision money will be the main factor, but I don't see why the Cardinals would be interested in changing locations, and the City of Tempe will certainly want the Cardinals continued presence.

I dont understand why the east valley cities get the Cards all the time. Everything they do is over there. Big Red Rage, the game (last year for that). I mean it seems they never come over here. Well they dont, I never here of events over here. Whats so great about the east valley? Ive been there, Im not all that excited about anything over there.

I agree. The closest thing I can recall is the Draft Party at Jackson's and that is downtown with me in the Far North Valley.

Don't worry, that will all change. With the arena and the stadium the tides will change. I have been in Tempe for 23 years and love it here. No need to debate reasons, different strokes and what you become comfortable with I suppose. Primary reason events have been here is the stadium and practice facility as well as proximity to players regular hunting grounds. Glendale has it made for the future when it comes to sporting events!!

Just enjoy what is coming!!

Simple answer: demographics - the statistical characteristics of human populations (as age or income) used especially to identify markets

But I agree with _FAN, the westside is on the uptake.

Let me add a question about the training and practice field. Was'nt the pratice field build in the same direction as the sun devil stadium field.and also the crown of the field the same? Being that the pratice field would simulate The home game field. I know the new stadium will be a retractable dome, changing the placement of the sun.but I was wondering if any of that came in to play in the new stadium.

****The Cardinals may be playing their games in Glendale when their new stadium is finished, but the team and the city of Tempe are about to officially make sure the rest of the team’s time will be spent in the East Valley.
****While the city and the team agreed in 2002 that the Cards would stay headquartered at their current training facility, the final agreement has yet to be signed. That, Tempe mayor Neil Giuliano said Monday, will be sometime in the next month.
****The Cardinals frequently use the facility, which includes the organization’s offices, locker and meeting rooms and three manicured grass fields, as part of their pitch to lure free agents. The team, which originally wanted to have a new stadium in the East Valley, wanted to keep roots in this part of the Valley.
****"We view ourselves not only as a state-wide team but also a Valley-wide team," Cardinals vice president Michael Bidwill*said.
****Bidwill*said the agreement will run concurrent with the team’s agreement with the new Glendale Stadium, a term of 30 years. The team is scheduled to begin play there in the 2006 season.
****The Cardinals have rented the training facility at the corner of Warner and Hardy roads since September 1990. The cost has technically been $675,000 a year, but the number was reduced to $53,036 because of various credits the team got for playing its games in Tempe’s Sun Devil Stadium. The Cardinals will pay the full price once they begin games in Glendale.
****Although Glendale initially made overtures to the Cards about training in the West Valley after the city won the stadium site, Giuliano said there were never any discussions about anyone else building a new facility.

They just

ripped out the old team shop and built a big meeting room there. Why do that if they're planning on leaving anytime soon?
