The FSU baseball program needed to replenish its catcher depth this offseason, and it is doing so through the JUCO ranks. Coy Clements committed to the Seminoles on Saturday, announcing the news on social media.
Clements is coming off a breakout redshirt freshman season at Pearl River Community College, where he helped them win the NJCAA Division II National Championship. He hit a program record 24 home runs to go with a .392 batting average, 10 doubles, and a .844 slugging percentage. His 54 walks were the second most in program history, and his 71 RBI were fifth.
The Hattiesburg, Mississippi, product was named the MACCC Player of the Year and will have three seasons of eligibility with the Seminoles, but he is draft eligible this offseason. He was also named to the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA Div. II All-America First Team. He started his career at Southern Miss, redshirting in 2025 before transferring to Pearl City.
Clements struck out just 34 times in 186 at-bats, finishing with a .532 on-base percentage. He scored 63 runs and had a 1.376 OPS. He made two errors behind the plate and allowed seven passed balls, throwing out 14 base stealers in 39 attempts.
FSU lost its top two catchers from last season, with Nathan Cmeyla out of eligibility and Hunter Carns entering the transfer portal. Clements has a shot to be a massive addition for the Seminoles, with an excellent shot to step into a starting role and provide some needed power.
