The Celtics are preparing for the 2026 NBA Draft, and although they currently hold the 27th pick, there should still be a few promising options available to help them achieve success next season.

However, one significant concern for Boston is that many potential targets for the 27th pick might choose not to enter the NBA this year. One player the Celtics could've been considering, who was expected to go in the late first round, is now opting to return to school.

Alabama forward Amari Allen announced on Wednesday that he has decided to withdraw from the draft and return to play for the Crimson Tide for another season.

Allen was a true freshman for Alabama last season, appearing in 32 games and starting 24, while averaging 11.4 points and 6.9 rebounds. It always seemed like Allen was leaning towards returning to school for another season, and it’s possible he wasn’t satisfied with his draft stock after the combine.

The NBA differs from the NFL in that players can enter the draft process and decide not to participate if they are unhappy with their projected pick. They can choose to return to college, but they must withdraw from the draft before June. This year, the deadline fell on Wednesday.
