We all agree the Cards need alot of help. They could maximizetheir pick this by trading down.If Leftwich is gone,i would consider this scenario.Trade down with the SAints and grab thie 17 and 18th picks(ESPN says they are trying to trade up to get Trufant/Newmn) and then trade either of those picks to Oakland for the 31 and 32 picks(KFFL says Oakland is looking to move up) and then we 4 of the first 37 players to go off the board.WE could possibly end up with Jerome Mcdougal/Michael Haynes,Kelley Washington,Ty Warren and Bryant Johnson added to our roster,or some combination of 4 highly rated players.I know it won't happen but we could afford it with all the cap space and we'd be brining in alot of talent to fill need positions.

I'm a big advocate of trading down and picking up extra picks. Especially in the case of the Cardinals. They have so many holes to fill they need all of the picks they get.

You say fish slapping...I say we are going to reach for a player at #6 that we could have gotten later.

Watch it happen.

On one has ever, ever said that Terrell Suggs is not a Top 10 player. If you remember, a month ago people were speculating that Suggs might go #1 overall. He was that good. Workouts pushed him into the Top 10. If you think that we can get Suggs outside of #8 (people will trade up to get him there), you're silly.

I would rather fill one hole at a time with potential Pro Bowlers (A la Top 10 picks) than try to fill a bunch of them at once with mediocre young players with some potential, especially question mark WRs that never do anything as starters in their rookie seasons.

I am not talking about Suggs. I am talking about Marcus Trufant.

Go read my thread from John Clayton who says that Cards are seriously considering passing on Suggs.

That would mean no Suggs or Leftwich at #6...with both being on the board. If you aren't going to take one of those players...than you are freaking high.

Oh and Clayton also reports a good chance that Suggs will be there at #10 now...just like I said yesterday.

I read the article off ESPN Insider. Be careful about reports that still report Bid Red as being the "St. Louis Cardinals," as that article did. If you read the entire article, it said that it could put B-More in a pickle because they'd have to draft Suggs instead of Leftwich or Boller. And it didn't really seem to source the "doubts" about the Cards not taking Suggs, which makes me think that other teams' boards are planning contingencies about the Cards not taking him, rather than the Cards saying "we don't want him."

I wouldn't take Trufant at #6, but I'd only trade down 5 places at the most, because out of the Top 10 or 15, you're looking at projects or players with promise, rather than fellows that are going to make you a better team immediately.

The Cards need to make impacts with all of the draft picks they have, rather than get rid of high picks and stockpile picks with which they have little to no history of success.

L.J. Shelton was a low #1 pick. Is he a solid player? Sure, I guess. Is he going to be in the Pro Bowl any time soon, or even during his entire career? I doubt it. Do we want to found this new era in Cards football on four L.J. Sheltons? I sure don't.

Okay we agree totally then

I have never advocated trading out of the top 15.

In fact, I have long said take the best guy there...which to me has to be Leftwich or Suggs. Robertson and even Kennedy wouldn't be bad.

But a freakin' cornerback? How does that significantly address current needs or planning for the future? It doesn't.
