The 52nd Players Championship is off and running.
The only issue for the first round on March 12 at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is how long the PGA Tour pros that make up the deepest field in golf will be able to compete until weather chases them off.
The first threesomes teed off Nos. 1 (Mark Hubbard, Thorbjorn Olesen and Mac Meissner) and 10 (Mackenzie Hughes, Eric Cole and Rico Hoey) at 7:40 a.m.
The Players Championship: Round 1 leaderboard, live updates, tee times
Two-time Players champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler tees off at 8:52 a.m. from the 10th tee with Tommy Fleetwood and 2021 Players champion Justin Thomas.
Defending champion Rory McIlroy will test his aching back at 1:42 p.m. off No. 1 with Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama.
The latest weather forecast had a front passing through Ponte Vedra Beach around noon, with play possibly suspended between that hour and 2 p.m. The field should be able to get some holes in beginning around 4 p.m. and would play up to sunset at 7:32 p.m.
