Rajasthan Royals' Yusuf Pathan won the Player of the Match award in the inaugural IPL final in 2008, scoring a match-winning 56 off 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings.

Batters have historically dominated the award, accounting for nine of the 18 winners. Bowlers have won it four times: Anil Kumble (2009), Jasprit Bumrah (2019), Trent Boult (2020) and Mitchell Starc (2024), while all-rounders have claimed it on five occasions through Kieron Pollard (2013), Ben Cutting (2016), Krunal Pandya (2017 and 2025) and Hardik Pandya (2022).

Kumble remains the only player to win the award after being part of the losing team in an IPL final.
