The Pittsburgh Steelers were slight underdogs at home to the Baltimore Ravens, heading into the AFC North title game on Sunday night. So they did whatever they could to try and get as much mojo as possible working in their favor. They even brought in a local Catholic priest to bless Acrisure Stadium with holy water.
And as it turned out, the game came down to the final seconds, and it was decided in the same part of the field where the priest sprayed his holy water.
Ravens placekicker Tyler Loop is catching entirely too much flak for missing his 44-yard field goal attempt that would have been the game-winning kick.
Games are won or lost as a team, and for every decisive play that does not get made, there are always several other plays that could have been made instead.
Also, perhaps Loop had some unseen, powerful forces working against him on that kick. And if all this isn't unique enough for you, then hold on, it does get even more strange.
For statistical nerds, check out this beauty from OptaSTATS:
One could honestly call Loop's kick the most meaningful in NFL regular-season history.

The Steelers had a priest bless the field with holy water during pregame.
The endzone he sprayed was the same endzone where Tyler Loop missed his field goal. pic.twitter.com/0iyJAIEw3U

There have been over 60,000 field-goal attempts in NFL history.Tyler Loop's miss on Sunday night is the only one of those attempts that came as time expired in the fourth quarter in the final week with both teams' playoff hopes resting solely on the result of his kick. pic.twitter.com/tzan3F0qh2
