The Detroit Pistons lost two points on a controversial play Saturday evening late in the third quarter against the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their first-round series in the NBA playoffs.

With the Pistons leading 80-76, Tim Hardaway Jr. ran down the court at Madison Square Garden for what appeared to be a two-handed dunk. The ball went to the bottom of the net, but then popped out, as he was hit on the right arm by Josh Hart.

No foul was called and Hardaway was whistled for offensive goaltending and no basket was awarded. The ball never fell through the net.

The Pistons at the time held a 80-76 edge with 3:08 left in the third quarter.

After the play, the Knicks scored to cut the deficit to two, but then the Pistons went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead, 87-78, all with Cade Cunningham resting on the bench.

The Pistons led 91-83 at the end of three quarters.

We'll see if the play comes back to haunt them.
