The Pirates are looking for a boost ahead of Monday's trade deadline.
Pittsburgh has lost eight of its last 11 games, including three out of four against Cincinnati in the team's most recent series. After briefly holding a wild-card spot, the Pirates are now one game under .500 and battling through injuries to key players.
And yet, the Bucs are still very much in the mix for a playoff berth with only a few games separating wild-card contenders. Can Pittsburgh general manager Ben Cherington add more talent to the roster?

MLB executives expect Pirates to seek help for playoff push
Rival executives believe Pittsburgh will remain active on the trade market and "do what it can to fight its way into the playoffs," according to ESPN's Buster Olney. With Ryan O'Hearn out for an extended period because of a left quad strain, the Pirates could be searching for a big bat to place in the middle of the lineup.

When is MLB trade deadline 2026?
- Date: Monday, Aug. 3
- Time: 6 p.m. ET
The deadline for MLB teams to complete trades is 6 p.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 3. Once that deadline passes, teams will not be able to make trades involving players on 40-man rosters for the rest of the 2026 season.
However, minor leaguers not on 40-man rosters can still be moved after the deadline.
