Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones made it somewhat clear how he feels about moving to the bullpen earlier last week. Jones, who has been on a rehab assignment, shut down that narrative right away.

Instead of being a team guy and trying to help these guys win at the highest level, he took a different approach, saying that he has no plans to work out of the bullpen, and it's something the team is going to have to figure out.

Frankly, because of how young Jones is and how good he is on the bump, I don't really disagree with his comments.

I know that many Pirates fans aren't happy with his remarks, but we have to understand that this is a kid who has been one of the best in the world since he was a high schooler, and he understands how good he is.

Making him a bullpen arm completely takes away from what he's worked for throughout his entire career, even if it'll be helpful to the team.

When speaking about those comments, as it's going to be prevalent until the Pirates make a decision, it sounds like it's a possibility that he could join the bullpen.

However, there's also a belief within the organization that he's a starting pitcher. That doesn't mean that he's going to be a starter right now, as Pirates higher-ups are looking to put the best 13 men in the pitching staff and take it from there.

“What I do know is that our job is to put together the best 13-man pitching staff that we can,” Bob Cherington said, per TribLive. “We need to put the team first, in that, and we need everyone to buy into that, whatever that means. We need the 13 best pitchers on the team to win games consistently. Obviously, we believe Jared is one of them, and we certainly believe he’s a starting pitcher as we look out into the future.

“We certainly believe he's a starting pitcher,” Cherington said, per MLB.com. “We'll make determinations about exactly who is in what role when he's ready to come back on the team. Certainly very possible he's starting games, but we want to take it an outing at a time with all these guys."

Just as I understand what Jones said, I understand what Cherington is saying here as well.

The Pirates have to ensure that they put the best team on the field every single day, and if that means that Jones is a bullpen arm, then that's what they're going to do.

I know that's going to cause a problem, and I don't necessarily agree with it, but higher-ups in the Pittsburgh organization are going to have to deal with that at some point rather soon.
