This offseason has been a very encouraging one for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Compared to years prior, they've finally begun investing in the team more seriously.

Ryan O'Hearn, Brandon Lowe, Gregory Soto, and Jose Urquidy were some big additions, and most recently, they came to an agreement on a $12 million deal for Marcell Ozuna.

But, as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic notes, this decision with Ozuna likely is bad news for the potential of a reunion with beloved Pirates legend Andrew McCutchen.

Marcell Ozuna $12M deal likely ends Andrew McCutchen's chances to re-sign with Pirates

In the wake of the Pirates coming to terms with Ozuna, Rosenthal reports that, "This likely ends Andrew McCutchen's era in Pittsburgh."

This offseason hasn't gone the way McCutchen would've hoped, as the Pirates have shown no interest in bringing him back for the 2026 season.

The 39-year-old Pirates legend wants to come back, but the front office hasn't made any effort to re-sign McCutchen this offseason. With this Ozuna deal, the Pirates are more than likely done adding impact players to their roster.

It's an awkward standoff between McCutchen and the Pirates, and in the aftermath of this Ozuna deal, the potential for McCutchen to return is a lot more slim.

He'd slide in as their designated hitter, but with Ozuna taking that spot, the Pirates won't have a starting spot on their roster for McCutchen.

The former MVP, five-time All-Star, and 17-year veteran isn't planning to retire just yet, but based on this Ozuna deal, and the standoff with the Pirates legend before it, McCutchen might need to find a new team this offseason.
