The Phillies weren’t in action yesterday, but the affiliates were. Three of them celebrated victories, and only a rough ninth in Lakewood separated the farm system from an undefeated day.

Lehigh Valley 9, Worcester 3

The nice thing about doing this in writing is that I don’t have to figure out how to pronounce “Worcester”. The IronPigs, however, did need to figure out how to beat the WooSox, and they did. The Pigs plated two in the first on a Keaton Anthony double. They surrendered the lead in the top of the fifth, tied it in the bottom of the same, took a narrow lead in the seventh… and then blew it wide open with a five-run eighth, removing all tension from the affair. Eight of the nine IronPigs batters had a hit, and five of them had multiple. Otto Kemp was a perfect four for four, and Keaton Anthony wasn’t far behind with his three for four day. Chuck King pitched a solid if unspectacular 7 innings (6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), and Michael Mercado shut down the Sox in a two-inning save.

Reading 4, Hartford 2

The Fightin Phils struck first on a Bryan Rincon homer and never surrendered their lead. They were held scoreless after the fourth, but as they kept the Yard Goats scoreless in eight of nine frames, it was enough. Seven of nine Phils had hits, and Rincon’s line was particularly pleasing: an entry in every column save for the one labeled “K”. Three pitchers took the mound for the good guys, and all walked away with a part in the victory: Luke Russo got the win (7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K), Jack Dallas got the hold, and Alex McFarlane got the save. A very tidy victory for the Fightin Phils.

Greenville 4, Jersey Shore 2

The Greenville Drive drove their way to victory over the BlueClaws, though they hit the road late. The BlueClaws took a 2-0 lead with a run in the second and another in the third; they held onto it until the ninth, when the visitors scored three thanks to a pair of triples. Greenville had only as many hits as they had runs, but they made all of them count. Nick Biddison, Luis Caicuto, and Carter Mathison had two hits each for the home team. Ramon Marquez pitched five hitless, but Keegan Batka couldn’t complete the two-inning save attempt.

Clearwater 6, Bradenton 4

The game started off with a flurry of runs: Clearwater scored in each of the first three frames for a total of five, and Bradenton did the same for a total of 3. The next four innings were scoreless for both clubs. Bradenton added one more in the eighth, Clearwater did the same in the ninth, and that was all she wrote. Three Threshers had roundtrippers: Nathan Humphreys, TJayy Walton, and Juan Villavicencio. Brad Pacheco got the win (5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K), Giussepe Velasquez the hold, and Tegan Cain the 1.2 inning save.
