Reports indicated during the offseason that Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper could be interested in moving back to the outfield if the team found an elite first baseman.

There were rumors that the Phillies could be interested in New York Mets slugger Peter Alonso, and with him playing the type of baseball he has over the first few weeks of the season, there's a very good chance he'll be on the open market again next winter.

If he's available again, the Phillies will likely have to pay him even more than what he's currently playing on, as Alonso is inked to a one-year, $30 million deal with a player option after the year.

According to an NL Scout, speaking with Will Salmon of The Athletic, this is the best they've ever seen Alonso, stating that he's playing at a peak form.

“Best I’ve ever seen him,” the NL Scout said. “I’ve seen the peaks of power. But those would typically come with more strikeouts, fewer on base. This is the complete package.”

Another NL Scout added that there could be some regression coming for him, but with him playing the type of baseball that he has, teams around the league should expect him to opt out of his deal.

“There will be some regression, of course,” the scout said, “but if he has the kind of season it looks like he may have, it was a great strategy on his part to have the player option for Year 2, and I would think there would be some teams lining up for three or four years.”

In a perfect world, the Phillies would have a chance at signing him next winter.

If he continues to swing the bat the way he has, there will be many teams lined up to sign him.

However, the Phillies have shown they're willing to spend money, and if Harper is still open to moving back to the outfield, this could be a deal that makes sense for both sides.
