Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper will have an opportunity to be an All-Star this year if everything goes as planned, as it'll be very shocking to not see him selected. The All-Star Game will be in Philadelphia, as Citizens Bank Park is hosting the prestigious Major League Baseball event.
Not only will this be an awesome time for guys like Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and perhaps some other All-Stars on this roster, but the fans in Philadelphia are going to get a treat to some of the best baseball in the world.
Now, there's a lot of hope that Harper is going to not just play in the All-Star Game, but potentially do the Home Run Derby. When Harper once did the Home Run Derby, it was one of the more electrifying things we've seen in the event, as the big-time Philly slugger can swing it with the best of them in terms of hitting balls out of the park.
However, when speaking about him possibly doing the Home Run Derby, it doesn't seem like it's a guarantee he's going to do so just yet. In fact, Harper said it would obviously be a blast to play in the All-Star Game, but he has to see how his body feels, and if he isn't an All-Star, he doesn't have any plans of doing the Home Run Derby.
“I’ve got to see how my body feels,” Harper said, per the Inquirer. “It would be a blast to be able to play in an All-Star Game here. That would be a dream to be able to play in that game. We’re still a little bit of a ways away from that, so still got to keep going, keep playing hard, keep playing well, and get there.
“I won’t do [the Derby] if I’m not an All-Star,” Harper said. “I just want to be an All-Star, first and foremost. And I want to be healthy. I’m going to take health into consideration, big time, because I feel great right now, and I don’t want to screw that up. So we’ll see.”
It makes a lot of sense that Harper comes out and says that he doesn't want to do the Home Run Derby unless he's an All-Star, as a lot of guys feel that way, but I'd be extremely shocked if he doesn't end up being an All-Star in Philadelphia.
In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that there's about a 0% chance he isn't named one of the All-Stars, for many reasons.
