The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back rookie wide receiver Brandon Hayes as injuries continue to reduce their available options during training camp.
Hayes’ agency, Quattro Sports Group, announced the signing. The move represents a second opportunity in Philadelphia for the 6-foot-2, 205-pound receiver and return specialist from Southeastern Louisiana.
Hayes initially attended the Eagles’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis after going undrafted in April. Philadelphia signed him before its first organized team activity open to reporters on May 27 but released him June 5 to create a roster spot for defensive tackle Zion Wilson.
His familiarity with the offense should allow him to begin contributing practice repetitions quickly. The Eagles needed another receiver after DeVonta Smith and first-round pick Makai Lemon missed time with hamstring injuries. Britain Covey also left Tuesday’s practice early, leaving Philadelphia with only a handful of healthy receivers.
Hayes earned consecutive first-team All-Southland Conference honors as a kick returner. He averaged 30.7 yards per kickoff return in 2025, the third-best mark in the FCS, and was one of five FCS players to return multiple kickoffs for touchdowns. He also recorded 227 receiving yards, 107 rushing yards, and two receiving touchdowns during his final college season.
The Eagles already have an unsettled competition behind Smith. Dontayvion Wicks has strengthened his position with a productive camp, while Darius Cooper has generated attention with several difficult catches. Hayes joins a group also featuring Hollywood Brown, Johnny Wilson and other players competing for roster spots.
Hayes remains a long shot to make the 53-man roster, but his return gives Philadelphia a healthy, versatile player who already understands the practice environment. His return ability could also provide another path toward extending his stay beyond training camp.
