Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus selected Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo, a "versatile playmaker," as the best Day 2 draft fit for the Indianapolis Colts.

From a pure passing game perspective, this is an addition that would make a lot of sense for the Colts if they are unable to address the tight end position in the first round.

"Indianapolis can find a versatile playmaker with solid movement skills in Arroyo," wrote Cameron. "He could contribute early as a reliable big slot after posting a 95.0% catch rate on catchable passes when lined up in the slot in 2024."

We all know that a much greater presence in the passing game is needed from the Colts' tight end unit. This was a group in 2024 that, collectively, didn't even eclipse 500 receiving yards.

Arroyo could fix that with his ability to stress all levels of the field with the playmaking potential he brings. The 2024 season was a breakout year for Arroyo, who averaged 16.9 yards per catch, which was the second-most among tight ends, while ranking first in average YAC as well.

Of his 47 targets, 25 came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage while 15 came 20-plus yards downfield. Only three tight ends had more downfield pass-catching opportunities than Arroyo.

Beyond Arroyo's contributions in the passing game, his presence could help create mismatches for others within the offense to exploit as well.

However, while that element would be beneficial for the Colts, what we can't forget about is the importance of blocking at the tight end position in Shane Steichen's offense. According to PFF's metrics, Arroyo did improve in that area in 2024, but there is quite a bit of room for growth as well.

It's also important to note that over 50% of his snaps in 2024 came from the slot. That isn't going to happen in the NFL with the Colts because playing time is then taken away from Josh Downs, and that's not going to be a part of the equation.

There are certainly aspects of Arroyo's game that would give the Colts a needed boost and do so in an area where they very much need a larger presence from the tight end position--the passing game. But, with that said, there are some unknowns when it comes to Arroyo's overall fit within the Steichen offense.
