LANSING — How good was softball around northern Michigan this past season?

Well, one glance at the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association all-state lists gives a pretty clear indication.

Across the Big North Conference, Northern Shores and Ski Valley, a total of 19 athletes earned some form of all-state recognition, including six out of Emmet, Charlevoix and Otsego Counties.

In Division 2, Petoskey’s Alexis Cadarette closed out her record-setting career with honorable mention as an outfielder.

Cadarette finished with a staggering .590 average on 72 hits while leading off for the Northmen. It included 14 doubles, seven triples and her first over-the-fence homer. She added 37 RBIs and 53 runs scored, along with 29 steals.

Gaylord’s Nora Bethuy also claimed honorable mention as a utility player. She finished the year batting .371 with 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored, which also included seven extra-base hits.

For Boyne City in Division 3, the season became all about power hitting. The Ramblers smacked a program-record 35 home runs this season and two of their best power hitters were recognized.

Senior Natalie Grobaski claimed first team all-state honors as a first baseman, while sophomore catcher Sadie Bush earned first team as well.

Grobaski hit for a .413 average in a season where she took a big leap at the plate. She had seven doubles and led the team in home runs with 12. She then had 55 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

For Bush, who helps call the pitches for the Ramblers behind the plate, a big sophomore jump came in the power department behind 11 homers. She batted a team-best .472 with 12 doubles, seven triples and 53 RBIs, while also scoring 66 runs as the Rambler leadoff hitter.
