Peter Woods is heading into his first NFL training camp with his rookie contract finally in place, and the former Clemson star is doing so after securing a unique piece of Chiefs history.
Kansas City and Woods have agreed to a four-year deal worth roughly $18 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The contract is fully guaranteed for the first-round selection, who was taken No. 29 overall in April’s NFL Draft.
The agreement reportedly includes a $9.5 million signing bonus, and Woods’ representatives say the structure of the deal gives him the largest upfront percentage of a signing bonus ever awarded to a Chiefs first-round pick. The contract brings an end to the wait after Woods entered Monday as one of the few remaining first-rounders still without a signed rookie deal.
Woods arrives in Kansas City after putting together a productive three-year run at Clemson. Across 35 appearances for the Tigers, he recorded 99 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups while becoming one of the anchors of the defensive line.
The Alabama native earned All-America recognition in 2025 and remained a key piece of Clemson’s defense throughout his career. Last season, he appeared in 12 games and posted 40 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks while drawing constant attention from opposing offenses.
Long before becoming a first-round NFL pick, Woods entered Clemson with plenty of expectations. The former five-star recruit was considered one of the premier prospects in the country, earning a national ranking inside the top 10 of his recruiting class. Now, after hearing his name called on draft night and finalizing his first professional contract, Woods can turn his full attention toward making an impact with the Chiefs.
