Editor's note: This story will be updated after the finals.
The turnaround will be much tighter than usual, but Bloomington South, North and Edgewood all had solid outings in the preliminaries of the Columbus North boys swimming sectional on Friday.
South will bring back all 24 individual swims, with 21 making the A Finals, while North has 22 swims, 14 in the A Finals and Edgewood has 14 coming back, with four in A Finals.
The finals will take place on Saturday, with diving starting at 9 a.m. and the swimming finals at 1 p.m. The top eight in each event make the A Finals and the next eight will swim in the B Finals. Only the winners and those who meet the state standard will advance to the state meet. The top four divers will head to the Jasper Regional on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

South's Peter Kovacs was the only area individual to claim a top seed, going 20.51 in the 50 freestyle and 45.42 in the 100 free, both well ahead of the runner-up, North's Wyatt Norrick (21.94 and 47.65).
South's Cam Seidenfaden was second in a pair of races, going 2:02.41 in the 200 individual medley and 54.16 in the 100 backstroke. Both times he was runner-up by a good bit to Oldenburg Academy's Nash King (1:58.87 and 52.41).
Panther freshman Kristian Stone had a breakout meet, coming in as a seventh seed in the 200 and 500 frees, but posting the second fastest times of 1:51.25 and 5:11.76, subtracting six and 22 seconds, respectively, off his seed times. Columbus East's Joshua Pendleton was well ahead of the fields as the top qualifier in both races in 1:44.02 and 4:44.05.
South also saw Erik Jensen take third in the 100 butterfly in 55.98. The Panthers were also the top qualifiers in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
North's Bryan Huang was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.00, with South's Gabrielle Marchionne third (1:03.79). The top qualifier was Seth Thomas of Milan (1:02.05). The Cougars were second in the medley relay and third in the 200 free relay.
Edgewood's four A Finalists are Sam Kohne, sixth in the fly and seventh in the back; Hudson Scholl, seventh in the breast and Jackson Schmalensee, eighth in the 500 free. The Mustangs' relays all finished in the top six and they will have all three swimmers back in the IM, fly and backstroke.
