Anfernee Hardaway must see a glimpse of hope on the horizon. "I can help the team!" clearly means "The team could help me win a championship.", obviously.

Can't blame him, though. The guy always loved basketball and was one of the most unfortunate NBA athletes over the last 15 years with his injuries.

As I've been a Penny fan in the 90s, I would be happy for him to have another season and even a chance to win the trophy he should have won 15 years ago.

Wonder who's next, though. Reggie? Malone? Barkley?

I don't think we need to worry about Barkley or Malone. Reggie, though might actually help this team. He wouldn't get much burn but I'm sure he can still hit the pressure shot when called on. Especially with the other "decoys" already on the court.

He's old with a long list of injuries, but where have we seen this before? Look no further than our own Grant Hill who has had a renaissance career for the ages.

If the Heat do decide to bring him in (which is unlikely) it's not out of the realm of possibility that he is a contributor, but I would not bet on it.

Your realm of possibility is more vast than most.

I beg to differ. My statement was more devil's advocate than anything. Hence the part you deleted that stated I would not bet on it.

Your claim that you wouldn't bet on it is pretty meaningless when you don't tell us the stakes. You wouldn't bet on it at a million to one? I would. But I still think it's outside the realm of realistic possibility. Anything is "possible" if you set the bar low enough.

In a van...down by the river.
I'd just like to take the oppourtunity to say that I'd like to submit my papers to the MIAMI HEAT as well....i think that with the right mindset, i could dedicate myself to their professional trainers, nutritional experts, miracle workers, voodoo specialists and the dance team that i could prove a valuable asset to the team as a guy they would never have to give any minutes to.

I've already discussed this at length with my ex-wife,two daughters and close friends. I'm ready to collect my championship ring.
Woot!

Dude, your splitting hairs. Relax. It was a general statement, or a cliche if you will.

Ill clarify for you: Penny wont do anything in the NBA again. That's my story and im sticking to it.

Hill was an All Star the last year he was with Orlando, so it is not comparable to a guy who has been out of basketball for 3 years.

Even when healthy guys are out of basetball for a few years, they rarely have successful comebacks. Yes Jordan did after the first "retirelment"; but IMHO after the second he was just not the same.

Man, I wanted Penny and Kidd to tear up the league. I really wanted Back court 2000 to be something special. It just never materialized and Penny was just a shell of his former self. If we had gotten the Penny pre-injury...wow.

It didn't work out. I just think the guy doesn't have anything left. However, if he could give you 5 to 10 minutes to spell the starters and not look totally incompetent.....and was cheap.....I think the Heat should do it.

I guess we all want to see some players make a comeback, however, I don't think Penny has any thing left. IMO, a D-League player would serve the Heat better.

A 39-year-old SG who DOESN'T have bad knees can't make it in the NBA... Why in the world would Penny even entertain such a thought? Does he even realize how incredibly stupid he looks?

He probably looks in the mirror and "sees" an athlete and says to himself, "It's now or never."

But Anfernee, Elvis left the building a long time ago.

I haven't made a study of older players (over 35) who have made sucessful comebacks after being out of the league for a year. My guess is they are mostly bigs who rely on size and srength rather than quickness and skills.

Look at Gary Payton, whose stats droped dramatically in his later years. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paytoga01.html and he didn't take any time off.

When Mike Miller's agent heard the Heat wanted to pay him $10 million to backup Wade next year, here is his reaction.

ESPN's profile page shows he will make $10 million in the first year.
