Getting tougher on defense has been one of the focuses for the Penn State Nittany Lions during this offseason. They added a solid piece to their linebacking corps on Friday.
Four-star recruit Terry Wiggins from Coatesville, Pa., made the call, choosing the Nittany Lions over other schools. This gives Penn State six of the top 11 recruits from the state during this recruiting season. Wiggins is part of the class of 2026. He is a senior in high school at the moment and will play the upcoming high school season.
At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Wiggins will learn more about playing at linebacker under the tutelage of new Penn State linebackers coach Dan Connor. Wiggins, according to 24/7 Sports, was ranked at No. 26 at linebacker in the United States, according to On3.
How does this addition put perspective on Penn State's recruiting class? The Nittany Lions now have the No. 5 class nationally. It's also put the team as the second-highest Big Ten class, only behind top-ranked USC.
“He realized where he needed to be,” Wiggins’ father, Terence, told On3. “Sometimes, the recruiting process can become overwhelming and he’s not necessarily a kid who likes a lot of attention. It can become a lot, so if you’re 100 percent sure where you want to be, why not end it?”
Besides Penn State, Wiggins also visited Syracuse, Cincinnati and Kentucky. He did get an offer from Michigan State, but chose to stay in-state to play college football.
Penn State will look to make a run toward another College Football Playoff championship game. The Nittany Lions finished 13-3, tied for second in the Big Ten Conference at 8-1 and an Orange Bowl victory.
The team lost 27-24 to Notre Dame in a CFP semifinal game at the Fiesta Bowl. Of course, the team gets a boost on offense as quarterback Drew Allar returns for his final season. James Franklin enters his 12th season as Penn State head coach after posting his best record in leading the Nittany Lions.
