2026-27 Outlook
Penn State played the entire 2025-26 season with only two varsity goaltenders after John Seifarth quietly departed the roster at the beginning of the season. The Nittany Lions had to add Chris McFayden from the club team two weeks into the season just to have a third option in net. This year, Guy Gadowsky was proactive and reeled in Crew Petty to take the third goaltender position.
Petty had a strong season at Gilmour Academy and will join Penn State immediately from high school. At 6’4”, 205 pounds, he is the biggest goaltender on this roster. The logjam in net with current starter Josh Fleming and presumptive backup Ryder Fleming means Petty is unlikely to see significant playing time in 2026-27 barring injury. Still, I am less worried about the third goalie spot this season than I was last year.
