The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Hendrix Lapierre from the Washington Capitals.
The Penguins announced that the team has acquired Lapierre from the Capitals in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, which was originally San Jose’s.
Lapierre is 24-years-old and was selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft by Pittsburgh. The Quebec native plays center but has struggled to fit into Washington. He recorded four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 74 games last season with the Capitals.
Lapierre has appeared in 158 career NHL games, recording 13 goals and 34 assists for 47 points. The Canadian should be a middle-six forward for the Penguins and adds some more youth and speed to Pittsburgh’s lineup.
The 24-year-old also helped the Capitals AHL team win the Calder Cup in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024, so he has some winning pedigree. He was also named Playoff MVP in 2024.
Pittsburgh will now turn its attention to the 2026 NHL Draft, which is set to take place on Friday and Saturday in Buffalo, New York. The Penguins have five total picks, but four of them are in the first 86 picks.
