  • Paul Pierce made a bet before the Boston Celtics' May 8 game that he would walk to work at FS1 studios if the team lost
  • After the Celtics lost to the Knicks, Pierce said he was keeping his word and would walk 20 miles to the studio in his robe

Paul Pierce is paying the price of a bold bet.

The former Boston Celtics star, 47, set off to walk 20 miles to work on Thursday, May 8, after losing a wager that the Celtics would win Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks.

Pierce appeared to confirm that he was indeed making the trek early Thursday, posting a screenshot to X of a map charting his path from home to work — by foot — along with two vomiting emojis. The map estimated it would take Pierce a little over eight hours to make the 20-mile trip.

He took his followers along for the journey, sharing footage from his walk to his Instagram Stories.

Pierce, dressed in what appeared to be his bathrobe, said in the video, "Alright, time for me to get to steppin,' " before walking outside to a sky that was still dark in the early hours of the morning.

The day before, Pierce vowed that he would wake up at 3 a.m. and walk to the FS1 studio in Los Angeles if the Celtics lost, telling his Speak co-hosts before the game, "I'm walking here, in my robe, no shoes on, bare feet."

He predicted the Celtics had "no shot" at losing again after the Knicks beat them in Game 1 of the series, saying they'd have a better chance of "seeing a dinosaur" outside the FS1 studio than seeing the Celtics lose another game.

Unfortunately for Pierce, the Knicks did beat the Celtics, 91-90, in Game 2.

On Thursday, Pierce continued to update his fans throughout the walk, admitting that he was starting to sweat about an hour-and-a-half in, at which point he'd completed about four miles. He promised he'd keep up the journey, saying, "I'm a man of my word."

At the halfway mark of his walk, he was joined by two men on the street who gave him some support as he marked the milestone after about three hours. He also took a brief break, then hit the streets once more.
