The New England Patriots did much to improve their edge rusher unit this offseason, but questions prevail following their wave of moves in free agency and the draft, which may prompt the team to address the position further in next year’s draft.
According to Tankathon in their 2027 NFL mock draft, the Patriots select Oregon edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei with the No. 24 overall pick in the event.
Uiagalelei recorded six sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss in 2025 at Oregon. The 20-year-old previously recorded 10.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss the year prior in 2024.
The Patriots have Harold Landry and Dre’Mont Jones as their starting edge rushers for next season. New England also selected Gabe Jacas in the second round of the draft this year, but his health has become a concern this offseason, which may call for the team to go with another edge rusher in the draft next season.
Uiagalelei is widely regarded as a future first-round pick in next year’s draft class. The Patriots may see his name on the board when they go up to select for the first time in the draft next year.
