Fans have been anxiously awaiting Drake Maye's thoughts on the Dianna Russini scandal engulfing New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Maye is famously married to his high school sweetheart, Ann Michael Maye, and their wholesome love story couldn't be more misaligned with the rumors surrounding Vrabel.
Well, the two-time Pro Bowler broke his silence Wednesday and decided to show support for the embattled Vrabel.
"We're here for Coach, we love Coach," Maye told a local news station. What he's done for us this past year, you can't speak into words. I'm thankful he's our head coach and know he's doing some stuff off the field and out of the coaching world, but we're here for him and I know he's gonna come back."
Maye isn't the only Patriots player standing up for their coach. Tight end Hunter Henry and linebacker Robert Spillane did the same, with the former adding Vrabel did a "great job" addressing the drama with the team.
"It's been the same Vrabes, bringing a lot of energy in the room," Henry said, per ESPN. "Obviously, he addressed it and that's kind of all I'll say about it."
Spillane, who played under Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans in 2018, says Vrabel is ensuring they "speak football" in the facility. Still, the ninth-year linebacker is there for Vrabel on a personal level.
"I love Coach and I'm going to be here to support him as he would be there to support me through anything," Spillane said. "I'm just a player and trying to do that the best I can."
In the scandal's wake, Russini resigned from The Athletic while Vrabel missed Day 3 of the NFL Draft to seek counseling and be with his family.
