The Patriots went into last week’s rookie minicamp with two roster spots open. After inviting 17 undrafted players to Gillette Stadium for a tryout, one player in particular clearly left an impression.

According to a source, the Patriots are signing undrafted rookie safety Peter Manuma to a contract later today. Manuma was one of the 17 rookies invited to Foxborough last week for a tryout during rookie minicamp.

During the team’s one open practice, on Saturday, the defensive back out of Hawaii stuck out with an impressive display of speed and athleticism.

A two-time captain, Manuma was a four-year starter who was named Hawaii’s Defensive MVP last season. The safety made 80 tackles with seven pass breakups last season. He finished his collegiate career tied 15th all-time in program history with 280 total tackles.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Manuma put up impressive testing numbers this offseason during the pre-draft process. He ran a 4.49 40-yard dash to go with a 35.5-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump.

Safety was a position that the Patriots didn’t address in the 2026 NFL Draft. The team signed All-Pro Kevin Byard to start next to Craig Woodson. They also added veteran Mike Brown and have Dell Pettus, John Saunders Jr., and Brenden Schooler on the depth chart.

By signing Manuma, the Patriots added more depth and a player who made the most of his opportunity last weekend.
