New England Patriots second-year safety Craig Woodson is excited about the upcoming year, and he believes one veteran in particular is going to help him become a better player.
That player is First-Team All-Pro safety Kevin Byard.
Woodson had a tremendous year for the Patriots last season, recording 79 total tackles, three passes defended and two fumble recoveries. The fourth-round selection played in 17 games and started in 15. He went from a potential rookie depth piece to a key contributor on defense.
However, he hopes that he can make an even bigger leap in 2026, working alongside a three-time All-Pro and two-time interceptions leader in Byard.
“I know he’s going to help me out there when it comes to seeing things, allowing the game to slow down even more than it’s starting to already,” Woodson said, per MassLive's Mark Daniels. “So, I mean, once we get to the practice and on the field, I’m sure he’s going to give me some keys and some tools that are going to help me.”
Byard has 140 games of NFL experience and is still playing at a high level.
He most recently led the NFL with seven interceptions and does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Woodson appears to be on a serious upward trajectory as well. Bringing Byard into the mix sets the stage for the Patriots to have one of their best safety duos in years.
