Patriots Predicted To Add 'Three-Level Playmaker' To Boost Drake Maye originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots need to discover new playmakers for quarterback Drake Maye this offseason, and one effective route could be through the NFL Draft.
New England has the No. 31 pick in the first round, which could be a perfect spot to grab a falling pass rusher. This strategy might allow the Patriots to find a wide receiver in the second round.
ESPN's Jordan Reid released a mock draft on Tuesday, predicting that New England would select Texas A&M pass rusher Cashius Howell with the 31st pick. He also has them picking Connecticut wide receiver Skyler Bell at No. 63.
"Bell has checked all the boxes in this process and sneaks in at the end of Round 2," Reid wrote. "He silenced questions about his speed at the combine by running a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. Bell is capable of playing inside or on the perimeter and is a three-level threat who could continue to boost quarterback Drake Maye."
The Patriots would be bringing on board an experienced player in Bell, who played five seasons of college football — three years at Wisconsin and two at UConn. Over the course of 52 games, Bell recorded 220 receptions for 2,893 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns.
