The New England Patriots are reportedly releasing veteran edge defender Anfernee Jennings, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Jennings, a former 2020 third-round draft pick for the Patriots, has served as a reliable and underrated player on defense. He had a solid run in spots throughout the 2025 season, particularly in the postseason, when Harold Landry III was battling through a knee injury.
He finished the season with 26 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery and seven quarterback hits. His next team will be getting an experienced veteran with 40 starts under his belt and a strong run defender without the wow factor as a pass-rusher.
The Patriots are now in a situation where an edge defender might be their greatest need currently. K'Lavon Chaisson is reportedly signing with the Washington Commanders, and Landry is an aging defender who was plagued by injuries last season. The team agreed to a deal with veteran free agent edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones, but they will need more than one move to make up for the current state of the position.
They have 11 draft picks to bargain in a potential trade for a player, or they could shift their focus to the 2026 NFL Draft for an influx of younger talent.
