FOXBOROUGH, Mass — The New England Patriots have made one thing clear this offseason: They want Christian Gonzalez to stay with the team long-term.

Both de facto general manager Eliot Wolf and head coach Mike Vrabel have not shied away from that fact as the star cornerback enters his fourth season and is now eligible to sign a contract extension. On Monday during his pre-draft press conference, Wolf was asked if there was any update regarding the negotiations.

”No Gonzalez update other than I’ll continue to say we want Christian here,” he simply said.

The Patriots also have the option to pick up Gonzalez's fifth-year option, which will keep him under contract through the 2027 season with a $18.12 million cap hit.

But the good news is the front office and the cornerback feel the same way. Gonzalez made it clear after his stellar performance in the Super Bowl that he wants to stay in New England, but it will all come down to the negotiations.

"This is where I got drafted, and I don’t want to be anywhere else," he said in February. "I’m not really trying to get into all of that. I mean, it’s kind of more my agents, they’ll deal with that and keep me up to speed on it."
