SANTA CLARA, California — One key New England Patriots defender has been dealing with what seems to be a serious injury throughout the season, which has sidelined him at times.

Linebacker Harold Landry suffered a knee injury in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints and then again against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12.

"I got hit in the same type of fashion," Landry told Patriots Wire. "It's just been lingering on."

With that, the team has been cautious of Landry's workload, often keeping him out of practice one to two days leading up to a game, along with being sidelined for the final two games of the regular season. However, he returned for the playoffs, competing against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round along with the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.

But unfortunately, Landry was ruled out ahead of the Patriots' AFC Championship clash against the Denver Broncos. And having to watch from the sidelines is not something the linebacker enjoys.

"It's definitely been kind of trash," he said. "I hate not practicing because I'm a guy that likes to work on my specific game plan for that game. And when you can't practice, you're kind of going into the game just hoping you're hitting on all cylinders.

"It's been tough being in and out of the lineup, not being able to practice. And then not being able to really go out there and affect the game at the level that you know you can affect it at. I mean, it is what it is, like, it's the NFL. Sometimes you have seasons like this, and you just got to control what you can control."

However, he's been able to play through the injury, which isn't an option for some players.

"I just hate not being out there more than I love being out there, to be honest," Landry said. "So, if the choice is up to me, I'd be out there every single snap. But it is what it is. When I'm out there, you just fight through it because your teammates are more important than whatever you're feeling. And the goal is more important."

As for what the specific injury is, Landry made it clear that he's "not speaking on that." Yet, when asked if there's anything that will keep him from playing on Sunday, he kept his answer simple.

"Probably not," the linebacker stated. "Yesterday was a good day for me and we're just going to see how the rest of the week goes."
