would be $9.57 million. must be exercised by May 3rd. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Once exercised, that money is immediately guaranteed for injury.

OK, ready? Proj transition #'s (Option for Top 10 picks): CB $9.57M, DE $10.09M, DT $7.65M, LB $9.26M, OL $9.53M, K $3.04M, QB $13.93M ...

Albert Breer@AlbertBreer32m
5th-year options for '11 rookies must be exercised by 5/3. Immediately guaranteed for injury. Guar for skill on Day 1 of '15 league year.

Shame on me!

I had no idea he had a team option for 2015.

Pffft. So, he is under contact for TWO more years.

So, pretty much the Cardinals don't have to touch his contract this offseason and can wait till next offseason.

That is huge.

That really frees up the team to concentrate on Karlos Dansby, IMO.

EDIT: Ugh. Sorry people, my current roster is about 2 weeks behind, the Cardinals have about 56 or 57 players on the roster for next year as it stands, I will hopefully fix this over the weekend.

In theory, the benefit from the Cardinal side is getting a slight discount for getting the deal done early.

Interesting thing with the Niners and Colin Kaepernick. Because he's a second-rounder, the Niners don't get an option year for him. If they don't get something done this year, they either franchise him next year at a much higher level or let him walk.

Seattle has the same situation with both Russel Wilson, and Richard Sherman, in regards to the fact that they have rookie contracts that are ending.

Both Seattle and the Niners have a lot of talent they have to sort through the next few seasons.

Well, that depends on the contract that Peterson is going to be looking for on an extension. If Peterson is expecting $12M a year on a new deal, the Cards are getting a 20% discount on that option year.

Have they gave Thomas and Okung any big cake yet?

Okung makes pretty good money and takes up a decent chunk of cap - he has 2 more years remaining on his 6 year rookie contract

Earl has one more year on his 5 year rookie deal - I could definitely see him as a candidate for an extension this offseason - his base & cap hit are expected to jump up a bit as it is, but probably still discounted to what his market rate would be

They extended Kam through the 2017 season this past offseason

I would expect that Sidney Rice and Chris Clemmons will both be cuts with 2014 cap figures approaching $10M while carrying just over $2M in dead money each

Red Bryant will be an interesting decision as he holds some value to the club, but his contract # is large ......... Brandon Mebane could be another guy that I'd hate to lose, but they may try to value down given their roation and drafting a guy like Jordan Hill last year

I would expect them to make a strong press to bring back Michael Bennett

Sidney Rice was one of the few 'mistakes' that John Schneider (or should I say Pete Carroll) has made in free agency.

Keep dreaming.

There is NO WAY Earl Thomas is taking a discount in what might be his only shot at landing a big money contract.

He is not taking any discounts.

Don't mean to be a party pooper........actually I do.

I am a spiteful person, and enjoy seeing the Seahawks having to wring hands to keep talent. :D

You misread .... i said his last year of his rookie deal is coming and since both the cap and base jump from this year he would be a prime extension candidate .... however, they could just elect to let him play it out in which case that last year would be a discount compared to the market value that would bump his numbers in an extension

He's going to get what he gets and is well with it

It's a dicey thing for player and team. If they're awesome, they could get screwed by the tag compared to the open market. Cocky guys like Dansby, play to hit the market ASAP. I think Thomas and Peterson will too. If the team blows a wad on them now, they could get burned if they are seriously hurt or start to party it up.

Tough call for both sides. Well, PP and Thomas SHOULD be wealthy for life no matter how it goes down, we are just talking about to what degree they will be rich.

Oh.

OK, yeah, cause he is a special player. Too much attention goes to Sherman, Chancellor, and the rest, IMO.

Thomas makes them all better because if you make a mistake deep, or don't throw your out routes perfect....he is going to get the ball.

Yeah... in a lot of ways, those corners are interchangeable--and you're seeing that with the carousel of players going around opposite Sherman.

Thomas is going to get a valuable second contract, but his third contract is going to be an albatross for some team. As we saw with Polamalu, these rangy safeties are an immense benefit when they have range, but it doesn't take much loss of range to turn them into ordinary players.
