Personally, the documentaries of his death and the subsequent attempted coverup of how it went down.... I can't really watch them. To damn depressing.

not only that, but the glorification of how he died by politicians drumming up support for the wars was sickening as well.

that being said (and i prepare to be HELLACIOUSLY DESTROYED for saying this), I don't think Pat belongs in the HOF. The Cardinals ring of honor...absolutely, but I just don't think the HOF is a place for his bust.

I have no doubt Pat would agree with BOTH of those sentiments... ;)

I'm not so sure you'll be destroyed for that comment. If there is a Hall of Fame for character, sure. But not as a Hall of Fame football player, he just wasn't among the best of all time. From memory, I seem to remember his college career was more decorated than his professional career.

Damn, he sure loved to hit people.

I'm going to have to ponder this for some time before agreeing or not. If the HOF simply stands for performance on the field then I agree with you. If the HOF stands for overall impact to the game and the NFL brand then Pat would definitely be a shoe in.

It still hurts---all of it.

I love what Jake Plummer said, however---let's remember Pat Tillman for how he lived, rather than for how he died. When I think of Pat Tillman, I think of him sitting on top of the water tower contemplating the meaning of life---I think of him riding his bike to practice, even as a Cardinal---and I think of him making tackles all over the field. As he said, he was just "ballin'"!

As a point of clarification: Pat Tillman is not enshrined the NFL HOF. Obviously, there is a Tillman display in the HOF (shown above), however that does not make Tillman a HOFer. There is also a mention of Bob Kalsu, the former Buffalo Bills player and only NFL player to die in the Vietnam war, among the displays in the HOF; but neither of these men has a bust in the HOF gallery room, nor are they considered as being "in the HOF".

I think this short article nails the true legacy of Pat Tillman.
from the article said:
As we enter a new year with a flourish of hope for individual and collective enhancement, perhaps we can look to Pat Tillman for an enduring resolution to leave our comfort zones and step up when opportunities arise.
Tillman truely did take the road less traveled.

If they do they are stupid. He doesn't belong in the HOF. What happened to him was horrible and he should be commended for what he gave up. However, put in the the Ring of Honor but not the HOF. There is ZERO wrong with that.

The dude was a cool cat in real life. Had the privileged of meeting him and him playing in our seasonal dunk ball tournys. Him serving our country and participating in a game so many of us love is icing on the cake. At the end of the day he was a human being who lost his life doing his duty. Simply tragic as is the loss of life for anybody in our armed services who sacrifice their lives.

We all will miss him as fans but my heart goes out to his friends and family most of all.

R.I.P. Pat

This. When I first saw Pat play in Sun Devil Stadium (pre ASFN days), I was impressed. Heck, I was a girl living in Jersey and there was little news (and coverage) of the Cardinals. I came to town with funds to buy Plummer, Williams and Rice jerseys. After the game on Sunday, I bought Tillman instead of Rice. (Still am SO GLAD I cut SiMEon.)

Funny thing. I was talking about this to one of my aides today. (I didn't even know she knew anything about football, let alone Pat Tillman.) I pretty much said everything you said above.

I'm having my annual remembrance Guinness in one of my Pat's Rula Bula pints glasses. Just something I do every year. Will be running (okay, jogging) on Saturday.

:notworthy: Absofreakinglutely!!!

Many, many times he crossed my mind today...what he stood for & the person he was. Each April 22 I sport the #40 jersey in honor of the man & will continue to do so. I didn't know him personally, met him once in TC & he seemed like each of the rest of us, ordinary human beings not the typical professional athlete of today.

Mitch, I bet PT was sitting on those lights at the Cards complex today watching his old team prepare for 2014 drinking a Guinness.
