As the NFL's preseason begins on Thursday, with the Carolina Panthers taking on the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game, the fantasy football season nears closer. And although he won't be playing in said game, there will be a player in Canton, Ohio that night who's worth taking a shot at drafting this year.
Carolina's Jonathon Brooks has been named by Bleacher Report as one of the top sleeper running backs to target in the late rounds of your fantasy draft. Zach Buckley writes:
Brooks still has to work his way past Chuba Hubbard to get to the top of the depth chart. If Hubbard can't regain his 2024 form, however, then that obstacle may not be too high for Brooks to climb.
With his explosiveness and sharpness on display, the 23-year-old has earned rave reviews during his first full offseason as a pro. He's even a potential threat as a receiver, as the Panthers are looking to incorporate Brooks' playmaking abilities into the passing game.
There's always a risk that Brooks will get hurt again, or won't get enough touches to be worth a start. But his price tag may present an excellent low-risk, high-reward opportunity for fantasy owners. According to Fantasy Pros, Brooks' current average draft position is just No. 126 overall and No. 40 among running backs.
