Carolina Panthers right guard Robert Hunt has at least one more week to get back on the field.
With the Panthers now set to kick off the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday, Hunt will have another opportunity to return from his biceps tear. But what's the likelihood that the NFC South champions will be able to suit their Pro Bowl lineman up for this weekend?
Head coach Dave Canales was asked about Hunt's outlook when talking to reporters on Monday.
"Yeah, it's a big week. A big week of evaluating Rob and seeing if he's physically ready to take on the game," Canales stated. "And wanted to make sure, going into last week, I wanted to make sure that he'd be able to play an entire game. Not something where he's gonna pop out there for a couple series."
Hunt went down in the Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. As he's remained on injured reserve ever since, the Panthers have used a handful of different options at right guard—including Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Jake Curhan and, most recently, Austin Corbett.
Canales was later asked how close Hunt was to playing in this past Saturday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"Very close, physically speaking," he replied. "But there's a bigger conversation that goes with the roster. Whenever you bring a player off of IR, somebody's gotta go down. And so, those are the bigger conversations that we're also just continuing to work through."
The Panthers, who initially listed Hunt as questionable for the regular-season finale, downgraded him out of the contest the day prior.
