Initial reports on the diagnosis of Chris Brazzell II's LCL tear indicated that the Carolina Panthers wideout would be sidelined for at least eight weeks. But the outlook changed in a drastic way less than 24 hours later.
On Thursday, the Panthers announced that Brazzell would be undergoing season-ending surgery on his left knee. They officially ended his rookie campaign on Friday, placing him on injured reserve right ahead of tonight's Fan Fest event.
After the outing, head coach Dave Canales was asked why Brazzell's path to recovery changed course.
"We wanted to make sure we did the right thing for Chris, long term," Canales told reporters. "So let's get all the information.
"And as the days went on, what you'd like to do is get initial imaging and then kinda see how it responds the following day and do more testing. And the more information we gathered, with everybody putting their heads together, landed on this is the best course for him, long term, to be able to get the knee stable to get him on the right track."
Brazzell was seemingly on the fast track to playing a considerable role in 2026. Between the offense's need for a speedy downfield threat and his standout spring, Brazzell may have been set to factor in right away for Carolina.
Those hopes were halted on Wednesday, when the third-round pick went down during seven-on-seven drills. Brazzell had returned to training camp activity that morning after sitting out the previous few sessions due to unrelated knee discomfort.
Despite the devastating setback, Brazzell appeared to be in pretty good spirits (and a pretty sweet ride) at Bank of America Stadium on Friday night . . .
