Determining a timeline for a return may be above his pay grade, but Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero does expect to see lineman Tershawn Wharton in 2026.

Evero spoke with reporters before Wednesday's session of organized team activities. He was asked if he had an idea of when Wharton, who recently underwent neck surgery, would be back on the field.

"I do not. That's a medical question," Evero replied. "Certainly, he's not working with us right now, but it's been good to have him in the building and he's taking his notes and doing all the stuff in the classroom. Know he's rehabbing. Exactly when he'll be back—I'm not certain of that. But the one thing I do know is that he'll be ready when he is."

In a follow-up reply, Evero then stated that he believes Wharton will be back at some point during the season.

When he does return, Wharton will have likely added to the time he already missed in 2025—his first campaign with the Panthers. The former Kansas City Chiefs and two-time Super Bowl champion, who signed on to a three-year, $45 million deal last spring, was sidelined for eight of the team's 18 games due to hamstring and toe injuries.

Wharton finished the season with 38 combined tackles and 2.0 sacks.
